Darker Than Midnight, book three from the Mordecai Young series, is another great novel by Maggie Shayne.River Corbett can’t remember if he killed his wife. He has repeated blackouts that make him lose time from his memory. Someone doesn’t want him to remember though. River finds refuge and an ally with Jax Jackson, the cop who helped Dawn and Beth from Mordecai’s treachery. Dawn’s been hiding a secret. When Mordecai died, she received his gift for seeing spirits. Each one plays a part in finding out who killed River’s wife. Darker Than Midnight is fast paced, action packed and filled with lots of twists and turns. A well-written romantic suspense novel.I enjoyed the book. The only thing I found was strange after Rivers had just escaped from the mental hospital all drugged up, how would he have the strength to pull Jaks from the cold water. If I was trying for new job as police chief, I think I would have tried to be there and on time. I did find it fast moving, there were certainly no slow times. This whole series was really great. I just want to know when she is going to write Dawn's story. She just left me hanging when Dawn left town. Where did she go and how is she doing? Please let her know that we are waiting to hear more.Maggie`s books never disappoint, this one was very good. It carries along with the same characters in Thicker Than Water and Colder Than Ice. This is Jax story and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I really hope there's more with these characters, I think there will be, bc I would love to know how Dawn is dealing with the gift her father left her.I liked it. Awesome H & h. Especially the heroine. You do have to suspend your believes on some things. And I'm not even talking about the paranormal stuff. It was good though.Wow! What a great book. Maggie Shayne outdid herself. I laughed, was scared and I cried. The character, Jax is a no nonsense kick butt and take names kind of girl. She and River, her love interest, are a perfect pair. This book in my opinion should be rated a 10. Can't wait for the next book in this series.Kept you in suspense and great characters and plot. I found myself looking forward to getting back to the book often!Compelling storyline I cried, I was scared, I was determined that the bad guys were going to lose! I just didn't know for a while who they were!I really enjoyed this book. It held my interest from the beginning. I liked the characters and felt as if you were getting to know them as the booked progressed. I guessed the "culprit" quite early on but that didn't quell my enjoyment of the book. I have read other Maggie Shayne books and I'm going do download the rest of the books in the series now.Couldn't put it down. Just discovered this author and enjoying reading her books. You won't be disappointed if you haven't read any of hers before. When is the next one ?? Will pass this on to family and friends. And my mother and sister. GreatA very good book with a twist well worth reading! Story line outstanding, page turner no putting it down xI absolutely loved this book it was inspiring and jax treated river the way every one should be treated at face value
